Well, this is awkward.
What does it look like if you get banned by one of the esteemed kinja sites? I noticed something weird on Deadspin, which lead to me doing some digging. I think I’ve been banned from Deadspin, and I think it was for !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
Shortly after, I noticed zero feedback on any DS post. And now that I look back, it’s like I’ve been completely erased from DS, all the way back to when kinja moved to FB/twitter/burner accounts. It looks like the person who posted the original response in the above link was also deleted from existence. I can go to his page and see posts he’s made on DS, but they don’t show up in the comments.
I also ran a test by responding to an old post of mine, but received no notification.
Is this the new mode of operation? Kinja just permanently ghosts people now?

I was banned from The Concourse, because I’m not a fan of Daddy Blogs that focus on Penis Feelings. After the Univision takeover, that became a ban on all the deadspin.com domains.
Finally.

But what does it look like? How do you know?
The last time I was banned (by AJ) I got a clear post on it when it happened, and I couldn’t post anything going forward.

When I was banned from Gawker many MANY moons ago (for explaining to HamNo why he shouldn’t be giving financial advice), my posts would show up to me as a grey post. Then, if I re-entered the article, my post wasn’t there at all. Ghost post.
That's what it looks like. There one second to you, gone the next.

Comments are gray and never receive any activity. Before the switch, I was followed by Deadspin.

Shit. That’s it.
I guess somebody is a big fan of the Brazilian police, and doesn’t have a sense of humor.

I dunno, that doesn’t really look like an awful post worthy of a ban.

I didn’t think so either, but all DS post activity ended soon after. With limited poking, I’ve noticed the same thing happened to Joseph Finn, and that post was dismissed.

Yeah, seems a bit odd since you weren’t being real nasty or inflammatory. There’s plenty of other posts that are way rougher.

Recently, a couple of people here were banned by Jalopnik for seemingly petty reasons and were given no explanation.
Idk what’s going on, but it seems authors across the sites are more likely to abuse their banhammers as of late.

you get permanently greyed, and your post will never show up in the comments even if you click “show pending.” also the poster you’re replying to will have 1 subtracted from their reply count. if yours is the only reply, they will have “-1 Replies.”

There are some (like spammers) who don’t make it out of the grey in the first place, but when it comes to being put back into the grey, there seems to be a major lack of communication. Kinja does not alert users when they’ve been “un-followed” by the blog, and those “un-follows” are rarely accompanied by an explanation. There’s no way to know if someone mis-clicked, or if it was supposed to be some kind of disciplinary action.
The last comment I posted on a Lifehacker page was instantly grey, and when I contacted the Kinja team about it, they confirmed that it was not a glitch on their end. Someone clicked the button, whether they meant to or not.
